Physical Education

Curriculum Intent

At Lanchester Primary School, we believe that Physical Education (P.E.) plays a vital role in nurturing lifelong healthy habits and fostering personal development. Our P.E. curriculum is designed to provide all children with high-quality physical education and sport opportunities that inspire and motivate. Through engaging, fun, and inclusive lessons, we aim to create an environment where every child feels ready to participate, respectful of themselves and others, and resilient in the face of challenges.

  • Ready: We prepare our children to embrace physical activity and understand its significance for their overall well-being. Our curriculum emphasises the development of fundamental movement skills, ensuring that all children are ready to engage in various sports and activities. We promote readiness by encouraging children to set personal goals, participate actively, and approach new challenges with enthusiasm and confidence.
  • Respectful: Respect is at the core of our P.E. lessons. We instil the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play, teaching our pupils to respect their peers, coaches, and the rules of the game. By fostering a culture of respect, we empower children to celebrate diversity, appreciate each other’s strengths, and understand the importance of collaboration in both individual and team sports.
  • Resilient: Through our P.E. curriculum, we emphasise the importance of resilience and perseverance. We encourage students to face challenges head-on, learn from failures, and celebrate successes, both big and small. By providing opportunities for competitive sport and personal reflection, we help our pupils build confidence and the mental strength necessary to overcome obstacles, equipping them with skills that extend beyond the sports field.

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum aligns with The National Curriculum and is enhanced by resources from The Power of PE, ensuring a comprehensive approach to physical education. We tailor our curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our learners, ensuring that all children, regardless of ability, can engage in and benefit from our P.E. lessons.
